Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has praised Chicken Inn for a brilliant performance against his team in CAF Champions League.
Sundowns beat the Zimbabwean Champions 2-0 to proceed to the next round on 2-1 aggregate scoreline.
The match could have easily strolled to a penalty shoot out but an injury time penalty conceded by Passmore Benard and ultimately converted by Mashego just by killed off the game as a contest.
Mosimane felt Chicken Inn were tough opponents as they pushed them throughout the two legs of the tournament.
“What a tough game! There was a lot of anxiety in the side … but character. What’s good about it is, this is the character for Champions League,” Mosimane told SuperSport after the game.
“In the first seven minutes we had Mashaba down with a shoulder [injury], I had Langerman with a hamstring [problem], and I told Mashaba you have to finish the game. We gave him painkillers in a bottle to drink and we strapped the shoulder, and that’s the character to win the Champions League.
“But credit to this team [Chicken Inn]. This team is a very good team. These are not fishermen from an island, this is serious football and they gave us a hard time.
“But my team showed character. When we play like this we are destined for success. We want it [to win the Champions League], we will fight for it.
“Now we have to face AC Leopards, it’s going to be the same, on the edge. We need to do better away and we need a different strategy away.
“But credit to the boys, they just keep winning, it’s unbelievable.”
