PSL strikers struggling to catch Augusto on scoring chart

It’s now two months since Clive Augusto left the Castle Lager Premiership and his 14-goal tally is yet to be surpassed.

The striker moved to South African side Maritzburg United in mid-August after impressing at Chicken Inn where he bagged three consecutive Player of the Month awards.

And eight league rounds later, he is still leading on the scoring chart with a four-goal margin ahead of Dynamos striker Evans Katema and CAPS United midfielder Joel Ngodzo.

Katema is yet to reach his best scoring form since moving to the Harare giants in the mid-season transfer window. A month-long injury affected his progress as he has so far scored three goals for Dembare. The other seven on his tally came during his time at Mushowani Stars.

Despite lack of goals, the dreadlocked forward has registered a couple of assists at Dynamos while operating from the flank.

Ngodzo, who also has ten goals, has been outstanding in the Green Machine’s midfield, and his attacking prowess has seen him hitting the back of the net mostly through set-pieces.

It’s, however, a different story for the strikers in the CAPS team who have failed to live up to expectations.

John Zhuwawo has been blowing hot and cold and has not scored for over a month now. He has eight goals while Dominic Chungwa, who won the Golden Boot Award in 2017, has managed just five goals after Match-day 26.

Yadah’s Ralph Matema is slowly catching up with the leading pack on eight goals while Highlanders’ Prince Dube has of late found his scoring form with five goals.

Black Rhinos forward Moses Demera, Ishamael Wadi (Harare City) and Triangle United’s Ralph Kawondera all have seven goals each.

Reigning champions FC Platinum’s leading score is Albert Eonde who has found the back of the net just six times.
