ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela says Tonderai Ndiraya is the national U23 team coach despite the reversal of his appointment as the Warriors’ assistant coach last month.
Suspended Zifa Vice President Gift Banda had named Ndiraya as the new assistant to Sunday Chidzambwa as well as the new Young Warriors mentor, but the decision was reversed a week later.
In an interview with Sunday Mail, Gwesele cleared the air and said that the former Ngezi Platinum gaffer remains U23s coach, but he is no longer part of the national team set-up.
“Ndiraya is the Under 23 coach,” he said.
“What was only reversed were national team appointments, Tonderai Ndiraya remains the U-23 coach, but he is no longer part of the senior national team.”
However, Zifa technical director Wilson Mutekede says there is no clarification as to whether Ndiraya would continue being the Young Warriors gaffer.
“Following the reversal of the appointments we are still waiting to hear from the bosses on who is in charge of all the junior teams and will announce once the appointments are made,” said Mutekede.
The Young Warriors will be in action in March when they play Mozambique in the second round of the Afcon U-23 qualifiers.
