A few Zimbabweans were in action over the weekend as the ABSA Premiership took a break to pave the way for the 2018 MTN8 final.

Matthew Rusike’s Cape Town City beat SuperSport United on penalties to win the trophy. The victory gave Rusike his first silverware since returning to South Africa in January this year.

The striker, however, did not take part in the encounter but was part of the 18-man squad.

On the other hand, Kaitano Tembo missed out to get his first medal as head coach of the SuperSport. Tembo took over the reins on a permanent basis in August.

Evans Rusike, who is it yet to win anything since crossing the Limpopo three years ago was in United’s first team while Onsmor Bhasera sat on the bench and only came in the 88th minute, replacing the former.

Abroad
Club Brugge’s Marvelous Nakamba played in his first game this season, featuring for the last thirty minutes against Cercle Brugge on Saturday. The midfielder had spent over four months on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Nakamba, however, received a yellow card seven minutes after his introduction.

Another Belgium based Zimbabwean, Knowledge Musona, was an unused substitute in Anderlecht’s goalless draw at home to Sint-Truiden on Sunday.

UK-based Tendayi Darikwa and Adam Chicksen both missed the action over the weekend. Darikwa was on the bench while Chicksen is carrying a leg injury.

Macauley Bonne played whole ninety minutes in Leyton Orient’s first defeat of the season.

In China, Nyasha Mushekwi scored an own goal as Dalian Yifang went down 3-0 to Guangzhou Evergrande. He played the whole game.

Costa Nhamoinesu was in the first XI when Sparta Prague lost in the Czech First League on Friday.
