CAPS United have announced the purchase of Division One side Gunners . The announcement was made by the club following a meeting between the board and National Executive Committee.
The purpose of the meeting was to review and improve club operations ahead of the 2016 league season.
Gunners Football Club which won the 2009 ZPSL title is now an affiliate of Caps United said club vice president, Nhamo Tutisani
Tutisani Caps United has also acquired a controlling stake in Sports Avenue Academy which will be dealing with much younger prospects of nine years and above.
Cuthbert Chitima the Gunners Football founder is now a board member at CAPS United. The club which is currently in Division One had PHD Ministries Prophet Walter Magaya as a shareholder as was now known as Yadah Gunners.
Senior team head coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, said the development is timely and fits the billing of Caps United.
“It’s an ideal arrangement given the magnitude of Caps United. All along, there’s been no development model.
“It’s a way of bringing order to the [development] structures. The concept of buying five or six players every season, given the amount of signing-on fees and player wage demands has become a bit unmanageable”, he said.
Club president Farai Jere who is now the majority shareholder said 2016 was the year to win the league title.
“The aim this year is winning the league. It’s been a long time since the year 2005”, he said.
He said the chances of winning the league this year are better since the club has managed to retain all the players from last season.
