Chapungu United reached the first round of the 2018 Chibuku Super Cup after beating Mutare City Rovers 5-4 on penalties in the preliminary round encounter played at Ascot Stadium on Saturday.
The Airforce side is now set to play FC Platinum during the weekend of 22-23 September.
Rovers were the first to find the target when they went into the lead through Vialli Tadzoka in the 20th minute.
Brighton Mugoni restored parity a few moments after the half-hour mark, converting a penalty which came as a result of a handball inside the box.
Chapungu got another penalty in the 73rd minute when Osborne Mukuradre was hacked down. Mugoni stepped up again but went on to hit the crossbar. Nonetheless, they got the goal in the 85th minute and went into the lead for the first time in the game when Edmore Muzanemhamo’s 40m drive left the keeper with no chance.
The advantage, however, did not last long as Jeffrey Takunda equalised for Rovers three minutes later to force the game into penalties.
Chapungu scored five of their kicks while Mutare got four on target.
