Lack of friendly matches worry Pasuwa

National team coach Calisto Pasuwa has admitted that lack of preparatory matches for his senior team is a cause for concern ahead of CHAN 2016 in Rwanda.

The Warriors has been in camp since Boxing Day but with just 10 days before the tournament Kicks off, the Warriors are yet to test any of their combinations in a match setup.

A friendly against Cameroon before Christmas was shelved off after Warriors broke camp amidst chaotic scenes that saw the coach fired before he was reinstated 2 days later.

There has been talk of friendlies being lined up against Mozambique and Ethiopia but with time running out nothing has materialised. Zimbabwe may just face their first group D opponent Zambia on 19 January without a friendly played.

In an interview with the Herald Pasuwa appeared to be worried over the situation.

“There are some players who are good when training, but if you throw them into the fray during a competitive match they will not be able to perform as much as they do in training.

“So we needed to have a look at some of these boys in a real game situation so that we have the right information on each and every player before we select our team,” said Pasuwa.

Zimbabwe will be under pressure to better their previous exploits at the tournament ending in the Semis. The team has targeted the finals but will have to navigate past a seemingly difficult group.

Zimbabwe are in group and will square off against rivals Zambia, Uganda and Mali.

Zambia have already shown seriousness on the tournament after setting up their training camp in South Africa and have lined up numerous friendlies.

Not to be outdone is the ever improving Uganda. The cranes will come into the tournament with plenty of energy following their triumph in the CECAFA cup.
