As we celebrate the day Knowledge Musona was born, Soccer24 have come up with some facts about the Warriors captain.
- Knowledge Musona has never played in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League despite starting his career in the country as a junior player.
- Musona played with Khama Billiat at Aces Youth Soccer Academy before he signed his first professional contract with Kaizer Chiefs in 2009.
- Musona was named the South African Premier Soccer League Rookie of the year in 2009/10 season to become the second Zimbabwean after Esrom Nyandoro to win the award since its inception in 2001.
- In 2011, he became the third Zimbabwean in the post-Apartheid era to win the South African PSL Golden Boot award with fifteen goals. The other two local players to win the accolade are Wilfred Mugeyi (1997) and Gilbert Mushangazhike (2001).
- The forward played alongside Brazil and Liverpool ace Roberto Firmino at TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
- In July 2013, Musona returned to South Africa to join his former club Kaizer Chiefs on loan from TSG Hoffenheim, having found it difficult in his first two seasons in the Bundesliga. Before his return to the ABSA Premiership, he was loaned to another Germany side FC Augsburg for one season.
- In August 2014, Musona underwent trials at La Liga side, Granada. However, his manager Mike Makaab denied the reports, stating the Aces Youth Academy product was merely training with Spanish club to keep fit.
- Musona made his first-ever appearance at the Africa Cup of the Nations on January 15, 2017, but could not last long as he was subbed off in the 11th minute due to an injury. He went on to miss the second match, but returned in the final group B game and scored.
- On June 11, 2017, Musona scored his first international hattrick in a match against Liberia at the National Sports Stadium to join other Warriors hattrick heroes like the former skipper Peter Ndlovu and Vitalis Takawira.
- In his first interview after joining Anderlecht, Musona revealed how he got the nickname ‘Smiling Assassin’ saying: “One guy from the Kaizer Chiefs media team gave me the nickname because I used to smile every time even if the referee said something or blow the whistle against me.”
