Mario Balotelli was involved in a shocking incident on Saturday, when a referee booked him for complaining about alleged racism.
The OGC Nice striker was shown a yellow card by referee Nicolas Rainville after pointing out the reaction from supporters to him missing a chance during the second half at Stade Gaston-Gerard.
Balotelli has received the backing of Anti-discrimination body Kick It Out.
In a statement the board said: “Kick It Out was shocked to see Mario Balotelli booked for bringing to the attention of the referee alleged racist chanting directed towards him by Dijon supporters.”
Another Anti-discrimination body, Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) also commented on the incident.
“Mario Balotelli should be be given added protection by referees and stadium officials, not a yellow card when he brings it to the attention of a referee,” said FARE.
This was not the first time Balotelli, who was born in Italy to Ghanaian parents, was a victim of racism, having previously experienced similar incidents when playing for AC Milan and Inter Milan in Italy.
