Report: FC Platinum, CAPS cruise to victories

FC Platinum kept their title hopes alive when they beat Highlanders 2-1 in a match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mhkokeli Dube and Ali Sadiki were on target for the Zvishavane side while Tshilamoya got its solitary goal from Simon Munawa.

The visitors set the pace of the game when Hillary Bakacheza’s effort forced goalkeeper Nederick Madeya in to a decent save with only six minutes played. Bosso soon followed up with its first real chance on the 21st minute mark when Godfrey Makaruse’s strike was saved by Wallace Magalane. It was not going to be long when Munawa scored three minutes later when he pounced on a rebound after his first effort was spilled by the goalkeeper.

Despite Pure Platinum Play dictating position, they failed to find the back of the net until the 37th minute when Mhkokheli Dube equalised after Tendai Ngulube made a blander. FC Platinum could have scored another one three minutes to the break but Brett Amidu’s shot from a close range went an inch wide.

Tshilamoya resumed the second half pressing for an early goal but the away team soon settled and started retaining the ball in the midfield. Several chances were created including Kevin Moyo’s strike which went straight to the woodwork. However FC Platinum soon found their breakthrough when substitute Ali Sadiki fired home a powerful grounder from a long range in the 79th minute.

Nonetheless the hosts tried to get back in to the game but FC Platinum’s back-line was well disciplined.

The match ended with the scoreline remaining unchanged.

Meanwhile in Harare, CAPS United cruised to a slander 1-0 victory over Triangle United.

Dominic Chungwa scored the only goal of the match to bring his season’s tally to twelve goals.

The home team played a decent game from the start but the Sugar Boys’ front line were troublesome at some point. Their greatest scare came on the stroke of half time when goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda pulled a top drawer save  to deny the visitors.

The second period resumed with Makepekepe skipper Hardlife Zvirekwi denied to open the scoring by the cross bar five minutes in to the game. Chungwa, however broke the deadlock on the 75th minute when he tapped home a rebound after the keeper spilled Sibanda’s freekick.

With no meaningful chances further created, the game ended 1-0 in favour of the home team.
