Zvenyika Makonese (40) will again play in the Zimbabwe top flight league after being signed by his boyhood side Shabanie Mine for the remainder of the season.

The former Warriors vice-captain Zvenyika Makonese propelled his boyhood club Shabanie Mine to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League next season.

He could not play in the league after chasing a move to Swaziland that fell through.

Earlier in the year Zvenyika Makonese was accused of doctoring his age to get a contract at Swaziland’s Manzini Wanderers.

The lanky defender was on the verge of signing for Wanderers, but the club discovered that he had lied about his age.

Wanderers general manager Patrick Gamedze is quoted by the media as claiming that Makonese claimed that he was 33 years.

Makonese left Shabanie Mine in 2004 for Santos where he spent five seasons before joining Pirates. In 2006 after impressing with the Warriors at the Africa Cup of Nations he was reported to be subject to interest from European clubs including Stoke City but nothing came of it.

Makonese is among the notable latest acquisitions by Shabanie Mine in mid season transfer window that include tried and tested striker Richard Kawondera, Ajana Trevor, Murimba Agrippa and Petros Moyo as they seek to remain in the league.

The club has also promoted from their junior ranks Dlakama Tanaka, Taderera Denzel and Demera Mike.
