Zimbabwean and Mamelodi Sundowns’ striker Khama Billiat has sparked an exit from the club after urging his Sundowns management to reduce his buyout fee which the club tagged for over R36 million.
It is now in doubt if the striker would continue his career with Sundowns following his appeal for the reduction of his Buyout clause.
“Look, Khama is not unhappy at Mamelodi Sundowns. He loves the club and has grown a lot as a player under Pitso Mosimane. his representative, Edzai Kasinauyo said.
“However, Khama is approaching his 27th birthday and we need to make sure that the next contract that he signs is the right one for him and his career. You know that there are clubs who are interested but Sundowns want to keep him. He is considering his options.
“We want to get his future finalised as soon as we can, but we have to make sure that whatever happens, it is the best situation for him personally.”
Speculation is high after several European and Egyptian clubs have inquired on the player but have been kept away by the buyout clause.
Billiat currently has a buyout clause of €2.5m (R35.8m) in his contract with Sundowns and it is thought that, while Billiat is open to putting pen to paper on a new deal, he will be bargaining to reduce that in order to keep the door open for a move overseas.
