ZIFA have appointed Wilson Mutekede as the new Technical director with immediate effect. Mutekede was only appointed Shabanie head coach last week but is not set to leave that post to work at ZIFA.
He replaces Taurai Mangwiro who resigned to take up the Triangle head coach position.
According to ZIFA the Technical Director will continue implementing a comprehensive coach education programme which seeks to equip coaches during a time when the coaching industry is being regularised.
Part of a statement from ZIFA read:
The association will continue reviewing coach education programmes in order to enhance coaching standards.
ZIFA has great confidence in the ability of Mutekede to contribute immensely towards the uplifting of coaching standards and nurturing of young talent because of his professional coaching and management knowledge.
The Technical Director will be responsible for the technical development of coaches and this will be done through touring all provinces, where he will also implement and supervise grassroots structures to ensure that junior football for both men and women thrives in line with ZIFA’ s mandate.
The technical director automatically become a member of the High-Performance Committee which has the responsibility of supervising the structure of all national teams.
