Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has denied social media reports suggesting that CAPS United head coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, has been appointed interim head coach of the Zimbabwe national team.
The Warriors head coach post is vacant following the expiry of Callisto Pasuwa’s contract yesterday (28 February).
Reports had suggested ZIFA had settled for Chitembwe after failing to land Amazulu head coach Joey Antipas.
However, ZIFA communications manager, Xolisani Gwesela, has rubbished the reports in a statement sent to Soccer24.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to dismiss falsehoods circulating on social media to the effect that the association has appointed Llody Chitembwe as Interim head coach of the Warriors,” read the statement from ZIFA.
“ZIFA Communications Manager, Xolisani [Gwesela], never spoke to any publication regarding this matter and comments attributed to him are a concoction of falsehoods.
“ZIFA is yet to appoint a new coach to replace Callisto Pasuwa and consequently the distasteful story should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. Citizen journalists are urged to be ethical in propagation of information.”
