CAPS United president Farai Jere has confirmed the club’s participation in the CAF Champions League following their league triumph on Saturday.
CAPS United ended an 11 year wait to lift the title at Ascot Stadium after beating Chapungu 1-0. The title comes with a ticket to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Champions League.
There had been doubts about the Green Machine’s participation in Africa’s premier competition following reports of financial instability at the club.
CAPS United are without an official major corporate sponsor and have struggled financially throughout the season with players even involved in industrial action over outstanding payments at one stage.
“Caps United is a big brand and for me we need to expose it more so that we unlock its true value. Therefore being in the champions league is one of the strategies said Jere at the weekend.
“We are the Zimbabwean champions and we will represent the country well he added.
Meanwhile CAPS United players are set to share half of the $100 000 prize money won with the other half being ploughed back into the club.
