Highlanders slapped with heavy fine by PSL

The Premier Soccer League has slapped Highlanders and Chicken Inn with fines after being found guilty of different offences.

Highlanders were handed a $3 500 fine for the behaviour of their fans following the Premier Soccer League game against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on the 14th of August.

In addition Highlanders will play their next league game against Bulawayo CIty this weekend  in an empty stadium.

Highlanders were found guilty of contravening PSL regulations that hold the club responsible when fans throw missiles and invade the pitch.

Violent scenes occured after Highlanders’ 1-1 draw with Chicken Inn at Barbourfields and left a policeman injured.

Highlanders fans hurled missiles during and after the match while there was a pitch invasion after the final whistle.
Attempts to restrain the angry Highlanders fans coming from the Soweto end of the stadium yielded poor results and it was the police that were forced to take cover after being chased by fans.

According to statement from the PSL $1500 of the total $3 500 fine is suspended on condition Highlanders are not convicted of a similar offence this season.

Chicken Inn have been fined $1500 after club officials insulted and threatened match officials following a game between the Gamecocks and FC Platinum.
