The Mighty Warriors will this evening make history at the Olympic Games by becoming the first Zimbabwean football team to play at the global sports showcase when they take on giants Germany.

The match kicks off at 23:00Hrs Zimbabwean time.

It’s definitely a David v Goliath clash with Germany ranked as the second best team in the world and considered one of the best teams in Women’s football.The Mighty Warriors are ranked 93rd on the World rankings.

With qualifying to the tournament already a huge achievement anything more from Shadreck Mlauzi’s side will be a big bonus. Mlauzi admits they have a tall order ahead of them but are bracing themselves for the challenge and the experience.

“It’s not going to be easy, we are up against the second best team in the world said Mlauzi. “We are going out to put a positive performance and might even shock them (Germany)

Mlauzi says he hopes the experience gained from the games will ultimately benefit Women’s football in Zimbabwe in the near future.
