Magwizi spells out his ‘vision’ for Zimbabwean football

“Football is more than just a game,” that is the closure aspiring ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi put on his manifesto —the one which focuses on steps to transform Zimbabwean football.

The Harare businessman, who will turn 46 three days before the crucial ZIFA election slated for January 25, will contest for the association’s presidency.

Barring any late changes on account of appeals made to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) by aspiring candidates who failed the the ZIFA Ethics Committee’s eligibility test —politician Temba Mliswa and former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari, Magwizi will battle for the association’s presidency with United Kingdom-based Marshall Gore, former ZIFA board member finance Philemon Machana, former footballer Makwinji Soma Phiri, and Northern Region chairman Martin Kweza.

Magwizi, who describes himself as a long-standing advocate for football and youth sports development, explained that he has a clear vision for Zimbabwean football built on five key pillars.

“First, I want to rebuild ZIFA into a strong and transparent institution with accountability and inclusivity at its core,” said Magwizi.

“Second, fostering strategic partnerships that will bring much needed resources and opportunities to our game.

“Third, driving financial stability through innovative revenue streams and commercialization.

“Fourth, investing in modern infrastructure to support players and communities alike.

“Finally, ensuring on-filled excellence with a focus on grassroots development and world class performance.

“Football has the power to unite us, inspire us and transform lives. Together, we can make Zimbabwean football great again,” added Magwizi.
