Genesis Mangombe suffers defeat in his first match in Tanzania

Zimbabwean coach Genesis Mangombe suffered a defeat in his first match since joining Tanzanian top-flight club Tabora United.

Mangombe moved to East Africa this month following his departure at Scottland FC, where he was replaced by Tonderai Ndiraya ahead of the start of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The gaffer took charge of his first game as the Tabora United head coach in the Federation Cup against Kagera Sugar FC on Friday afternoon.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw but Mangombe’s side lost 5-4 on penalties.

Meanwhile, Tabora United confirmed Mangombe’s appointment after he had taken charge of Friday’s match.

Mangombe’s club will face Prince Dube’s Young Africans on 1 April in the Tanzanian Premier League.

This will be the gaffer’s first league match in Tanzania.
