The Sports and Recreation Commission has taken a huge step in instilling transparency and accontability within ZIFA by engaging the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate alleged abuse of funds by the national association.
The ZIFA board, led by under-fire Felton Kamambo, has often been accused of misappropriation of funds, with the Warriors’ disastrous AFCON campaign and the Mighty Warriors’ COSAFA Women’s Championship being the latest chapters of players either not being paid on time or not even being paid at all.
SRC director-general Prince Mupazviriho reportedly wrote to CID, seeking their assistance in investigating ZIFA.
The Kamambo-led adminstration has many at times been summoned by the authorities and recently, Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry did so after the Mighty Warriors boycotted their Olympic qualifier against Zambia citing unpaid allowances.
