The senior men’s national soccer team, the Warriors, will know who they face in the World Cup 2022 preliminary round when the draw is conducted in Cairo, Egypt today.
Zimbabwe is among the six nations who participated at AFCON 2019 but find themselves having to start qualification for the world’s greatest football spectacle in the preliminary round due to low ranking.
Together with Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania and Namibia, the Warriors are in Port 1 since they were ranked between 27th and 40th on the latest rankings.
The seeding for the round is as follows;
Pot 1: Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Malawi, Togo, Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, Swaziland, Lesotho
Pot 2: Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, Ethiopia, Liberia, Mauritius, Gambia, South Sudan, Chad, Sao Tome e Principe, Seychelles, Djibouti, Somalia, Eritrea
