It might be early days in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League but CAPS United’s title credentials appear to be as clear as daylight after a five-star performance saw them dispatch struggling Bulawayo Chiefs 4-1 at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The result saw the Green Machine leap-frog Chicken Inn, who lost a top-of-the-table clash to F.C Platinum by a solitary goal, into 4th position. The Harare giants even have a game in hand, a postponed encounter against Chapungu.
With 10 points from four games, CAPS only dropped points this term in a nil-all draw with Highlanders at Babourfields, where Dominic Chungwa’s late second-half strike could have sealed the fate but it was incorrectly ruled out for offside.
Makepekepe will be hoping that the new acquisition Gabriel Nyoni maintains his top form if they are to mount a serious title challenge. The former Bosso midfielder, yet again, played a central role against a hapless Chiefs on Sunday, chipping in a goal and made an assist.
The return of Ronald Chitiyo from a long lay-off due to an injury will add more firepower upfront along with the likes of Blessing Sarupinda who shifted to an attacking role, Phineas Bamusi and central strikers Chungwa, Newman Sianchali and John Zhuwawu.
The Lloyd Chitembwe-coached outfit’s next assignment is against Mark Harrison’s Harare City and a win will have its fans daring to dream.
