Philip Chiyangwa has revealed the likely hosts of this year’s edition of the COSAFA Cup.
Zimbabwe was initially named as the official hosts, but ZIFA pulled out after the government refused to approve the event.
Chiyangwa who is the COSAFA president confirmed to the Daily Sun last weekend that the annual tournament will, in all likelihood, be returning to South Africa. However, he refused to give too much information.
“The COSAFA Cup is likely to be played here in South Africa,” Chiyangwa told the South African newspaper.
“Please talk to Danny Jordaan (Safa president) to get more information. Ask him, don’t waste time.”
South Africa has hosted the regional tournament three times since 2015, and given the infrastructure it has, chances are that they will again agree to come to Cosafa’s rescue.
This year’s edition is set to take place between May and June and will present a perfect preparatory platform for teams that will feature at the 2019 Afcon finals in Egypt from June 21 to July 19.
