FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza gave credit to goalkeeper Petros Mhari as his club put an icing on their league triumph coronation with a win over Ngezi Platinum Stars on Saturday.
Mhari stood between Ngezi Platinum victory and his side’s win with some crucial saves, particularly in the first half.
“We didn’t defend well especially in the first half and thanks to Petros he kept us in the game. He frustrated Ngezi Platinum Stars,” said Mapeza.
“It was a hard season for us, and I would want to thank everyone from the fans, executive, players and my fellow coaches for this victory. We worked well as a family.”
A header by Gift Mbweti off an Elvis Moyo cross in the second half, proved to be the decider in a tie that had a tussle for the title from the start of the season.
The victory ensured that FC Platinum extend their gap ahead of second-placed Ngezi by 12 points and can also further stretch it should they win against Highlanders and Madamburo falter at home to Triangle. They are now on 77 points will be hoping to reach a record eighty.
