Liberia will host Zimbabwe in the 2019 Afcon Qualifiers, Group G encounter at Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia.
Kick-off is at 6 pm Zimbabwean time, and the encounter will be live on SuperSport 9A.
Head-to-head Stats
Liberia are yet to beat Zimbabwe ahead of this evening’s match.
The two countries have met three times so far, all in the same competition, since 2010. Warriors dominate the tie with two wins, both recorded at home, and a draw.
The first encounter, played on September 5, 2010, in West Africa ended in a 1-1 stalemate. The reverse fixture took place in Harare a year later, and Zimbabwe emerged 3-0 victors.
The most recent game between the two opponents was in June 2017 where captain Knowledge Musona scored a hattrick in the Warriors’ 3-0 triumph at National Sports Stadium. The victory remains the biggest by any team in the group.
Form
Zimbabwe are unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions, posting four wins, of which, two were decided by penalties. They drew 1-1 at home against DRC last month in their previous game.
Liberia, on the other hand, have managed two victories and two draws in the last six games in all competitions. They won at home 2-1 against Congo Brazzaville last month.
2019 Afcon Qualifiers Stats
Zimbabwe are currently on top of Group G with 8 points while Liberia are at the bottom with four.
The Southern Africans are yet to concede a defeat in the campaign and have picked four points out of a possible six in the games they played away. The Liberians are yet to lose at home after managing a draw and a victory in the two matches they hosted.
A draw for the visitors will see them qualify for next year’s finals in Cameroon. The host need nothing short of a victory to keep their chances of progressing alive.
The Warriors have scored more goals (7) than any team in the group while the Lone Star conceded more goals (8).
