Chidzambwa rallies behind Musona

National team coach Sunday Chidzambwa has urged captain Knowledge Musona to put aside his frustrations of not having enough game time at his club Anderlecht, and focus on leading the Warriors against Liberia on Sunday.

Zimbabwe will play the West African country in a Group G encounter of the 2019 Afcon Qualifiers. The match kicks off at 6 pm Zimbabwean time.

Musona is currently having an unhappy spell at his Belgian side where he has failed to break into the first team since his arrival at the club ahead of the 2018/19 season. He was an unused substitution in last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Gent.

“Knowledge is one of our best players in the team, and we expect him, as usual, to play his role and help us in our assignments, the same way he has been doing,” Chidzambwa, told the Herald.

“It happens in football (that a player may not feature regularly for his club), but he must forget whatever is happening at his club and focus on the job at hand.

“We still have some important games to play, and we need him.”

Musona has played a key role in the current qualifiers by scoring four goals for Zimbabwe, including an opening day hat-trick against Liberia at the National Sports Stadium last year.
