Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi says people underestimated their ability ahead of the back-to-back clashes against DRC during the international break.
Zimbabwe collected four out of six points in the tie, beating the Congolese 2-1 in Kinshasa before drawing 1-1 at home. They are now 8 points on top of Group G of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers.
In an interview with Kick-Off.com, Munetsi said they knew they were going to squeeze something in the first leg.
“We knew we had a good team. Before, people [in Zimbabwe] underestimated us and the quality that we had, so we knew it was going to be a David vs Goliath match,” he said.
“We knew we just had to go there in the first leg and it was important for us to get three points, and then at home, we knew if we could at least get a point it was going to be okay for us. [On Tuesday] we did our best to get three points, but we were okay with the draw.”
The 22-year-old replaced Danny Phiri in the midfield in the reverse fixture played in Harare on Tuesday and went on to win the Man of the match award following a splendid performance.
