On Wednesday, Shabanie Mine announced the appointment of unheralded Alexio Segion as the substantive coach to replace Takesure Chiragwi who resigned two weeks ago.
The Chinda Boys looked certain to rope in Moses Chunga but failed to secure his services. According to The Herald, the club executive realised they do not have the capacity to employ Chunga after holding two meetings.
In an interview with the newspaper, chairman Tavaziva Mhloro confirmed why they settled for the little-known Sijoni.
“Yes, we talked to some coaches, including Chunga, before we gave him (Sijoni) the job, but we were looking at a number of things, and I think Sijoni is the right candidate.
“It is no secret that we have a very small budget, and we looked at all those things before we could settle for our preferred coach. But like I said, we have confidence in Sijoni to be a success at this club,” said Mhloro.
The other coach who had been linked to the job was Philani Ncube.
