Ngezi Platinum earned their first ever league victory over CAPS United after winning 1-2 at National Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Madamburo came from behind and extended their unbeaten run to eleven matches.
The Green Machine had an upper hand in the opening minutes, creating two good chances which they failed to convert. Ngezi only found their feet after the quarter-hour when Terrence Dzvukamanja went one-on-one with the keeper but was denied as the ball was punched out for a corner.
A good interchange of passes in the 27th minute resulted in a goal which put the home team in front through John Zhuwawu whose shot was deflected on the way.
Dzvukamanja restored parity for Ngezi ten minutes later before James Nguluve grabbed the lead on the stroke of half-time.
CAPS never show any intentions of coming back when the second half action resumed. It was, in fact, the away team who controlled the game, and they almost added another one in the 76th minute only the effort to be saved by keeper Chris Mverechena.
The match ended in favour of Ngezi who move to 29 points on the top while CAPS United are seventh.
In Bulawayo, Biggie Zuze’s first game in charge of Dynamos ended in a 1-0 win over Bulawayo Chiefs.
Quality Kangadzi scored the solitary goal just after the half-hour mark after a good feed from Emanuel Mandiranga.
Chiefs were a better side in the second period but could not find an equaliser. They dominated possession, creating good opportunities which were either thwarted by the keeper or Godfrey Mukambi who was in top form.
The Glamour Boys’ only real chance after the break went on to hit the post with ten minutes to play. The hosts were also denied by the woodwork in the closing stages of the game.
Dynamos are now on 8th position with twelve points while Bulawayo Chiefs are in tenth place.
Chapungu and Chicken Inn played to a goalless draw while Blessing Sarupinda received a red card in the 69th minute as ten-man Black Rhinos drew 0-0 against Herentals.
