Local company Dr Dish has reportedly made a $3.5 million bid for the broadcasting rights of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
According to The Herald, the bid was submitted just before the 7 February deadline. The proposal is far much better than the SuperSport deal which ended at the end of December.
Unnamed sources told the newspaper that Dr Dish is targeting the PSL as part of the efforts to expand their local market
“The leadership at Dr Dish believe, if well-packaged, and with a lot of matches being covered, there is a market out there that has an appetite for content that is generated from the local Premier League and which a lot of people want to see on their televisions at home, in the bars or in the offices,” the sources said.
If their proposal is accepted, the league will receive $750 000 per year for the next five years.
Meanwhile, the Swiss-based company – Infront Sports & Media’s interest in the broadcasting rights was reported in the media, but it’s not clear whether they submitted their bid before the deadline.
