Leganes booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey on away goals courtesy of a spectacular 2-1 win at Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday night.
Los Blancos entered the match holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg of their last-eight tie, but it was the visitors that progressed on another hugely disappointing night for the Spanish champions.
Leganes took the lead in the 31st minute when Javier Eraso found the top corner with a stunning strike following a loose pass from Achraf Hakimi.
Real Madrid levelled the scores in the 47th minute, however, when Vazquez’s clever pass was chipped into the back of the net by Benzema from a narrow angle.
Leganes refused to be dispirited though, and the away side scored a second in the 55th minute when Gabriel headed a corner from Eraso into the back of the net.
Madrid put pressure in the latter stages, but Leganes held on to record a famous Bernabeu win – booking their semi-final spot in the process.
