S.A based Zim players round-up

Several South African based Zimbabwean players were on fire over the weekend with Dominic Chungwa, Khama Billiat, Evans Rusike and Ovidy Karuru all on target for their teams.

Chungwa scored on his debut for Polokwane City in a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates on Saturday. The striker who joined the Limpopo side a few weeks ago was in the first eleven and opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he struck home from a close range.

The 2017 Zimbabwe Golden Boot winner did not finish the game after picking up a knock on the hour mark.

Team-mates Walter Musona and George Chigova were also in the team that played on Saturday. Chigova made some great saves despite conceding late in the game.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Billiat scored a brace in 3-0 win over Platinum Stars on the same day.

The forward was returning from an injury and showed his class when he netted two identical freekicks from a long range. The first goal came in the 32nd minute before he struck another one five minutes later.

The Zimbabwe international played 63 minutes before Aubrey Ngoma replaced him.

Also on target for his team was Maritzburg United’s Evans Rusike who scored the second goal in 3-0 victory over Free State Stars.

Ovidy Karuru made an assist and found the back of the net when AmaZulu beat SuperSport United 2-0.

Karuru scored the second goal on the stroke of half-time, but the Zimbabwe international received a yellow card before he was substituted in the 58th minute. Team-mate Butholezwe Ncube was also booked during the game.

Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande capped off a good weekend with a solid midfield show on Sunday. Katsande was voted man of the match in Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-1 win over Baroka FC.

Baroka’s Talent Chawapiwa and Chiefs’ Teenage Hadebe had a decent game on Sunday, while Golden Arrows duo of Knox Mutizwa and Kuda Mahachi, Bloemfontein Celtic’s Ronald Pfumbidzai and SuperSport United striker Kingston Nkhatha also played during matchday 18 of the ABSA Premiership.

However, Gerald Takwara got a red card in his third appearance for Ajax Cape Town in a match against Cape Town City on Saturday.

Takwara was sent off in the 43rd minute for a second bookable offence. The midfielder had received a yellow card a few minutes earlier. Fellow countryman and teammate Tendai Ndoro played 90 minutes, but his performance was average.
