FC Platinum wrapped up their season in style when they beat Harare City 2-1 to clinch the Castle Challenge Cup in a match played at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
The challenge match was a one-off clash meant to commemorate Premier Soccer League (PSL)’s 25th anniversary.
Pure Platinum Play, who won the 2017 league championship last week, bagged their second silverware courtesy of goals scored by Rodwell Chinyengetere and Mkhokheli Dube.
Chinyengetere opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Harare City’s Martin Vengesai was denied by the keeper three minutes later. The Sunshine Boys retained the majority of ball possession in the following moments but failed to find an equaliser.
City had another chance to restore parity in the 41st minute but Takudzwa Chimwemwe’s effort went straight to the post.
The second half resumed and FC Platinum doubled their lead on the half hour mark through Dube. City pulled back one with five minutes left on the clock but it was too late to make a recovery as the game ended in favour of FC Platinum.
