The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has confirmed that 4 teams will be relegated at the end of this season.
Last year the Zifa executive committee led by president Philip Chiyangwa resolved to increase the number of teams to 18 from 16. The country’s flagship league saw only two teams relegated last year while Zifa promoted into the elite league all their four regional division one champions.
Speaking to the Herald ZIFA’s Spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed that 4 teams will relegated while four will be promoted to mantai the 18 team league.
“As it stands, the position is at the end of the 2017 season, four teams will go up while four teams will go down to Division One. It means the PSL is now an 18-member league until or unless the ZIFA Congress, which is the biggest decision-making body of football in this country, decides otherwise and changes it. The ZIFA Congress is the one which determines the composition of the PSL teams,” he said.
Premier Soccer League chief executive Kenny Ndebele also reiterated that four teams will be relegated but referred further questions to ZIFA.
