Chicken Inn walks off the pitch in protest
The Chicken Inn-Yadah game was abandoned in the last minute of the game after Chicken Inn left the pitch in protest over the decision by the referee to award a penalty to Yadah in the 89th minute. They felt cheated with the decision and the referee had no choice but to call off the match
Reigning Super Cup champions stumble
They will be new Super Cup champions this season after Ngezi Platinum lost 1-0 to CAPS United. The 2016 winners were knocked out in their first game of the new campaign. This, however means Ngezi are still under Makepekepe’s dominance as they are yet to win a match over them in top flight football.
Giants bite the dust
Two of the biggest clubs in the country, Dynamos and Highlanders were knocked out of the tournament on Sunday. FC Platinum were also booted out in first round, setting their worst record in the tournament.
Violence mar Bosso-City match
There was a reported act of violence in the game between Highlanders and Harare City when Bosso supporters invaded the bay housing City fans. They started to attack them by throwing stones. The Harare City fans had no option but to run in to the pitch for safety.
Chapungu breaks the jinx
Chapungu finally got it right when they beat FC Platinum 1-0 for the first time in top flight football’s history. Brighton Mugoni scored the only goal of the match through a penalty
