Khama Billiat was on target as Sundowns beat rivals Orlando Pirates 2-0 in a high profile ABSA Premiership match to keep alive their chances to reclaim the league title.
Billiat opened the scoring in the 23rd minute cashing on a defensive blunder by Pirates’ defenders to head home 10 yards out.
Four minutes into the second half Zakri doubled Sundowns’ lead when he broke through on goal and made no mistake with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Billiat could have scored a couple more but was guilty of wasting opportunities. In the 66th minute he hit the side netting just 10 yards out after ghosting in the penalty box from the left flank.
With two minutes left of play, Billiat’s long range effort hit the cross bar with keeper beaten as the skillful player missed a chance to double his tally.
However, with the win Sundowns remain in 2nd position three points behind leaders Bidvest Wits.
Bidvest Wits maintained their three-point lead over Mamelodi Sundowns after recording a slim 1-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Bidvest Stadium.
In their ranks Wits had Cuthbert Malajila who played the entire match.
