Liverpool are reportedly considering risking a points deduction by playing defender Joel Matip amidst his ongoing row with the Cameroon national team.
The 25-year-old was called up for the Africa Cup of Nations this January but has angered his national team bosses by refusing the call-up as he retired last year.
Matip joined Liverpool from Schalke in the summer and has proven a success at Anfield so far, with Jurgen Klopp understandably tempted to use him if he’s available.
Still, Cameroon are furious over Matip’s lack of involvement at this winter’s tournament, and have declared they intend to invoke Fifa regulations that he cannot represent his club while the competition is still going on, according to the Daily Mirror.
