Two goals from defender Liberty Chakaroma and another from Kelvin Bulaji have earned Ngezi Platinum Stars a 3-1 victory over FC Platinum at the Baobab Stadium in the Chibuku Super Cup Final.
The win means they become the first team since 2001 to win a major trophy in their first season in the Premiership. Shabanie was the last team do do so by clinching the BP Cup back in 2001.
Ngezi Platinum started the game with intent and were deservedly 2 nil up in the 26th minute. Liberty Chakoroma opened the scoring in the 10th minute through a counter attack firing from outside the box. Kelvin Bulaji doubled the lead in the 26th minute taping in a spill by Keeper Petros Mhari.
Gerald Takwara put one back with a screaming shot from way outside the box with five minutes to the break.
The game was put to rest by Liberty Chakoroma who completed his brace with 3 minutes left of place. It was to become his 4th goal of the tournament and end as the tournament’s top scorer.
Ngezi Platinum also won the sole ticket to represent Zimbabwe at next year’s CAF Confederations Cup.
