Takeaways from Castle Lager Premiership Week 27

The Castle Lager Premiership Week 27 did not disappoint as the league title race took twists and turns while one team was officially relegated from the Premier league.

Here are four things we can take away from the weekend:

The point that could make all the difference

CAPS United produced the much talked about comeback to draw with rivals Dynamos. Like Chitembwe rightly pointed out in the end it felt like a win for CAPS and the point earned could prove to be a big difference in the league title race. Crucially despite not playing well for most of the game CAPS United avoided defeat to keep themselves on top and with three games to go will be certainly facing their chances for a first title since2005.

Good bye Border Strikers, all the best in Division One!

It was a matter of time but Border Strikers were officially relegated from the ZPSL at the weekend after a 3-0 loss to Mutare City. The Beitbridge side never really settled in the league and from too many coaching changes to financial hardships Border Strikers did not seem to be ready to for the top flight. Interim head coach Masomere admitted his side deserved to go back to Division One with how they played. The numbers don’t lie 21 loses from 27 games with only four wins ,Border Strikers will now be preparing for life in D1.

Are FC Platinum choking again?

FC Platinum failed to win again at the weekend and the story sounds all too familiar. FC Platinum seem to have hit a bumpy patch and once again where it matters the most despite looking so promising a few weeks ago. A draw against Ngezi Platinum left fans furious  with their side appearing to be faltering at the business end of the season. However with three games to play and two points behind CAPS United Norman Mapeza’s side can still avoid being labelled chokers again if they can turn things around and hope other result go their way,it’s a tall order especially with the top two looking good.

Highlanders’ impressive running continues

CAPS United may be on top but the inform team in the league is Highlanders. Bosso have now won seven straight league games and are breathing down CAPS United with the league title race set to go to the wire. A 3-1 win over Bulawayo City saw Erol Akbay’s keep their dream alive and with CAPS United only a point away seem ready to take advantage of any slipups.
