The self proclaimed Dr of Football, Luke ‘Vahombe’ Masomere in his return to coaching received a baptism of fire as he saw his charges Border Strikers being humbled by Moses Chunga’s Harare City.
Masomere who was recently appointed to coach of the Border town of Beitbridge team was mandated to save the team from relegation. However in his first match in charge Masomere got a rude awakening going down 4 nil against Harare Cityin the Chibuku Super Cup first round.
Harare City who themselves are the defending Champions made it clear that they are going for another hunt.
In his defence Masore conceded that the team played badly but however alluded that to the fact that he had not got time with the team.
Masomere tld the Herald: “The team did not play well, I just had training with them on Wednesday and by yesterday (Thursday) we were on the road, so it was a second practice session,”
“We had a very bad game in the second half as the boys showed signs of tiredness and the fitness levels are not encouraging at all. We will work hard in preparation for the remaining seven games.”
Masomere will now know he task of helping Border strikers escape relegation will not be any easy one.
His opposite number Moses Chunga was happy with his team’s performance.
“We played well and it was a good game which we dominated,” said Chunga.
“We had the opportunity to try some young players after we took a comfortable lead, although they could not get on the score sheet. We now look forward to the next draw.”
