Report:Warriors beaten by Guinea

The Zimbabwe national team ended the 2017 AFCON qualifiers with a 1-0 loss to Guinea in Conakry.

The Warriors struggled in the first half seeing very little of the ball as Guinea dominated possession and created more of the chances.

Despite the lack of possession Knowledge Musona forced a save from the Guinean keeper in the 10th minute

Guinea took the lead in the 12th minute when they ball was put over the Zimbabwean defence allowing  Guy Michel Landel to latch onto it and score.

Four minutes later Guinea wasted a great chance to double the lead as the Warriors struggled to contain the attacks.

In the second half the Warriors came back a much improved outfit. Evans Rusike came close to scoring but saw his header go off target a few minutes after the break.

As the Warriors ventured forward more chances came through. In the 51st minute Musona got the Zimbabwe’s best chance to score but could only strike the post with the keeper beaten.

Tendai Ndoro who started from the bench came close when he was through on goal only to be let down by a heavy touch.

Tendai Mukuruva prevented Guinea scoring in the 72nd minute with a save but almost made a blunder after failing to deal with a crossed ball.

In the 89th minute Guinea were reduced to ten men after Bungura was sent off after clashing with Costa Nhamoinesu who seemed to taunt him after he had kicked the ball after the whistle had gone.

The result means the Warriors failed to end the group unbeaten but with AFCON qualification already sealed focus will now be on adequately preparing for the tournament.

Zimbabwe finish the Group with 11 points while Guinea finish in second spot with 8 points the same as Swaziland who lost 1-0 to Malawi earlier today.
