The Mighty Warriors improved on their general performance despite going down 3-1 to Canada in a Group F 2016 Olympic match played this evening.
After going down 7-1 to Germany a few days ago the Mighty Warriors trailed Canada early when Janine Beckie scored in the 7th minute.
Christine Sinclair added a second in the 19th minute via the penalty spot. With the Mighty Warriors struggling to retain the ball and inviting more pressure Canada continued to press and dominant the game. Beckie scored her second in the 35th minute.
Zimbabwe’s threat upfront was lacking with the ball just being blasted upfront ,while the midfield lacked cohesion for most of the first half. Halftime came trailing 3-0 and with great concern that Canada would score even more.
However the second half saw a much improved display as the Mighty Warriors showed more composure on the ball and tightened things at the back. Rather than just blasting the ball upfront there was more build play.
In the 86th minute the Mighty Warriors scored their second goal of the tournament with Mavis Chirandu on target.
Moments later Major Nyaumwe almost added a second but saw her shot just go wide as Zimbabwe finished the game on a strong note.
Zimbabwe remain bottom of the Group with 0 points while Canada go top with six points. Germany and Australia clash in the other Group game later.
