The Zimbabwe football Association (ZIFA) has targeted high profile friendly matches for the Mighty Warriors as preparations for the Olympic games set for August.
Zimbabwe women soccer team, Ranked 95 according to FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings were drawn into a tough group with Canada who are ranked number 10 , followed by Australia who are ranked number 5 and two time World Champions Germany who sit at number 2.
In order to give adequate preparations; the Mighty Warriors set to start camp in early May are in current dialogue with Sweden and New Zealand to facilitate friendly matches before the games in Rio Olympics.
Speaking to the Herald, Zifa Communications Manager Xolisani Gwesela confirmed that the Association received invitation for friendlies and are currently working hard to exploit the chance.
“We can confirm that we got an invitation for a friendly match from the New Zealand senior team and we have since written to them advising them that we are working on the logistics and necessary arrangements for that match.
“No dates have been proposed so far. We also received another invitation from Sweden. We are still in discussions with these teams.”, Said Gwesela.
The Mighty Warriors have had a brilliant patch having also qualified for the 2016 Women AFCON games set for Cameroon at the end of the year.
