The Zimbabwe national women’s team edged Zambia 1-0 in African Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifier played at Rufaro Stadium.
Despite getting the better chances, the Mighty Warriors had to settle for a 1-0 win after Kudakwashe Basopo scored on the stroke of halftime.
Basopo did well to score poking the ball over the keeper after being let through on goal. More goals could have been scored but the Zambian keeper Hazel Nali put on a good show to keep Zimbabwe at 1-0.
In the 54th minute Marjory Nyaumwe had a great chance to score but saw Nali manage to make two key saves.
Emmaculate Msipa also came close but failed to keep her shot down in the 71st minute. With three minutes from full-time Nyaumwe put herself in a great position but could only shoot straight to the keeper.
In added time the Mighty Warriors were unfortunate not get a penalty after a foul in the box as the match ended 1-0 in favour of the home side.
The second leg is set for Zambia on Sunday.
