Seven Zimbabwean referees have been chosen to officiate in CAF Champions League fixtures this weekend.
The seven include Norman Matemera who will officiate the CAF Champions League preliminary match between Swazi side Mbabane Swallows and Rwanda’s APR FC.
Matemera will be assisted by Salani Ncube and Edgar Rumeck while Nomore Musundire while be a reserve referee.
The game between Zesco United and South Sudan side GAL GHAZALAWAU will see Pilani Ncube in charge and be assisted by fellow Zimbabweans Brighton Nyika and Luckson Mhara .
Chairman of the ZIFA Referees Committee, Edzai Kasinauyo applauded the appointement of the seven especially after Zim refs were overlooked for the CHAN 2016 tournament.
Speaking to ZIFA’s official website Kasinauyo said, “This is an improvement on our standards as we didn’t have a referee at CHAN tournament in Rwanda, so seven referees receiving continental recognition is honourable.
“It is a very big bench mark which shows that they have been very focused and consistent in their displays but as a nation we can do better by supporting and improving refereeing as a nation,” added Kasinauyo.
