Highlanders revealed that incoming head coach Erol Akbay has been handed a two year contract subject to receiving his work permit papers.
This was revealed by the Highlanders executive at the club Annual General Meeting held at the club house on Sunday
Akbay agreed terms with Highlanders last year but is still to get a work permit. Akbay has a two year contract which is performance based said Highlanders chairman Peter Dube at the event that was attended by Highlanders members and the media.
Amini Soma Phiri who has had a change of heart will be Akbay’s assistant with Cosmas Zulu part of the technical team as well. The two who were in charge of Highlanders at the end of last season have been carrying out the pre-season preps while Akbay papers are being sorted.
Meanwhile Highlanders revealed that a loss of $39,887 was made last year an improvement from 2014 when the club made a loss of over $60 000. Highlanders’ total debt now stands at $576,702 in total.
Like most local clubs Highlanders has failed to develop alternative revenue streams with gate takings and player sales the main revenues the club depends on.
