Highlanders clinched their first piece of major silverware since 2013 when they beat Chicken Inn 1-0 in the Easycall Cup final this afternoon.
Ralph Matema’s 40th minute penalty was enough to make sure Boss ended the season on a high.
Chicken Inn had the better start asking early questions and in the 11th minute Danny Phiri came very close to an opener for the Gamecocks forcing save from Ariel Sibanda. Sibanda spilt the ball but Katsvairo who was ready to pounce was ruled out for offside.
A Chicken Inn continued to press Highlanders were having chances of their own and Ralph Matema came close in the 22nd minute but could not get a good foot on Bruce Kangwa’s cross.
As the half time drew closer Highlanders starting getting the upper hand and in the 40th minute they were ahead. Honest Moyo made his way into the box and was brought down by Danny Phiri leading to the referee leading to pointing to the penalty spot.
Ralph Matema stepped up and made not mistake to put Highlanders in front.
Halftime came with Bosso leading 1-0.
The second half saw Chicken Inn thrown men forward in search of an equaliser but Edmore Chirambadare and his teammates were coming short.
Ralph Matema was a constant menace to the Chicken Inn defence as he forced a goal bound effort in the 58th minute from Chicken Inn keeper Chipezee and came close in the 70th minute again
The last ten minutes Highlanders held on as the Chicken Inn attacks continued to come but were dealt with.
In the 90th minute Knox Mutizwa almost made it 2-0 but his shot was saved well by Chipezee.
The final whistle came and was greeted with celebrations from the Bosso fans that had packed Barbourfields Stadium.
