Young Zimbabwean English based striker Macauley Bonne scored four goals as Colchester overcame National League South side Wealdstone 6-2 to progress to the second round of the FA Cup.
Colchester took a 26th-minute lead through Bonne, who converted after Matt Briggs’ cross had not been cleared.
However, Wealdstone equalised six minutes later when Jefferson Louis scored from the spot after Joe Edwards had tripped Shaun Lucien in the area.
Wealdstone winger Bradley Hudson-Odoi’s attempted clearance almost squirmed over his own goal-line but Wealdstone took the lead seven minutes before the break when Briggs’ attempted clearance from Lucien’s corner hit Hudson-Odoi and flew in.
However, Colchester went in at half-time level thanks to Bonne, who nodded in Briggs’ cross.
The Zimbabwe international completed his hat-trick with the second half less than two minutes old, converting after Marvin Sordell had picked him out.
Bonne made it 4-2, nodding in at the back post from Moncur’s shot and the latter blasted in the fifth with nine minutes remaining before Sordell fired in a sixth near the end as Colchester progressed in style.
