Four things learnt from ZPSL Week 25

Week 25 of the Castle Lager Premiership has come and gone. Here are four things we learnt from the Weekend action.

Chicken Inn have the stuff of champions

Chicken Inn have been title contenders for much of the season. However after a loss to Dynamos in the league questions were beginning to be raised on whether they were championship material or would choke as the season comes to a decisive phase. Trailing 1-0 to How Mine the Gamecocks looking to be heading for a loss the gave the answer , in championship style came back fighting with two very late goals to win 2-1. It was a massive win and another big test against FC Platinum now waits but Chicken Inn look to have the right ingredients to be champions.

Dembare reign coming to an end

Dynamos have dominated the league and landed an impressive four league titles ,however their hopes of a record breaking 5th straight title are now hanging by a thread. Held to goalless draw by Harare City ,Dynamos players looking dejected and so disappointed after the game you could tell from the body language, a miracle is now needed to win the title this season. It’s a game they had to win. In Ndiraya’s words it’s simply no longer in their hands.

Kaindu and the second half season curse

Kelvin Kaindu’s Triangle were brilliant and even went beyond most people’s expectations in the first half of the season. So good was Triangle’s form that they part of the title race. Then came the 2nd half of the season, Triangle have struggled with results and Gibbo which was once a mighty fortress has become a nightmare for Kaindu and his men. A embarrassing 3-0 loss to relegation threatened Flame Lilly at home showed how bad things have been for Triangle. The poor form of Triangle in the second half seems to match Kaindu’s time at Highlanders where Bosso lead the table in the 1st half of the season only to collapse in the second half and lose out on the title to great rivals Dynamos. A top four finish could still be a notable achievement for the Lowveld side but after such a great start they would have wanted more!

FC Platinum still looking so good!

Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum remain in the hunt for their first league title. They stretched their unbeaten run in the league to 17 games this weekend dismissing Whawha 3-0. Ironically Whawha was the last team to beat FC Platinum way back in Week 6! FC Platinum and Chicken Inn meet in Week 26 in what could be a title decider. Chicken Inn have a four point lead over 2nd placed FC Platinum.
