CAPS United produced an improved performance to beat Highlanders 3-1 at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.
CAPS United have been struggling with goals of late but things came together for the Green Machine today.
Highlanders had the first good chance of the game when Obadiah Tarumbwa struck just wide after six minutes.
Then on CAPS United dominated possession and created good chances but seemed to get in wrong in the final third.
Nine minutes from the break Phineas Bamusi gave CAPS United the lead when his long range effort beat Ariel Sibanda in goals for Highlanders. The ball took a awkward bounce making it even more difficult for Sibanda.
Halftime came with CAPS United still leading and the better side.
Highlanders had a good start to the first half and were rewarded in the 51st minute when Knox Mutizwa marked his return to the squad with a well taken header. It was Mutizwa’s 11th goal of the season.
The momentum then swung in favour of Highlanders as they pressed for another. However just when Highlanders were on the ascendency Leonard Tsipa made it two for CAPS United with a strike into the roof of the net after a cross.
Highlanders lost Mthulisi Maphosa to injury as they pressed and not even the introduction of Ralph Matema in the 66th minute could inspire a comeback.
Three minutes into added time Chungwa made it three for CAPS United when he got onto the end of Equatorial Guinea forward Tony to seal the win.
The victory puts CAPS United into 5th a point behind fourth placed Triangle. Meanwhile Highlanders still languish in 10th with 28 points from 24 games six points from the relegation zone with seven games to go.
